Today is Monday, May 2, 1633, two days after the death of vicar Poul Nielsen Vederholdt
Welcome to our historical game “The Vicar and the Witch of Aalborg,” where you enter a world of mystery, intrigue and dangerous accusations in 17th century Denmark.
Parish Vicar Vederholdt became seriously ill during a dinner at the home of Rev. Ulrik Balthasar Pedersen on Annunciation Day, March 25.
He talked wildly for the last week of his life and died shortly before midnight on May Day, Saturday, April 30 – a night known for witchcraft activities.
After Vederholdt’s death, the vicarage is both grieving and suspecting a crime committed by the maid Inger Margrethe Hansen.
Was it a natural death, or was it caused by sorcery?
It is striking that Vederholdt fell ill on the day when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary. Even more suspicious is the fact that he died on Saint Walburga’s Night, when witches are known to fly to Troms Church in Norway.
