Welcome to our FAQ section!

Here you will find answers to some of the most common questions about our Sidewalk Mystery experiences.

We hope these answers will give you a better understanding of how to play a Sidewalk Mystery and how to get the best possible experience.

If you can’t find the answer to your question here, feel free to contact us or browse the site: How to play.

Let’s get started exploring the world of puzzles, mysteries and excitement!

Is the price per person?

No, the price is for the whole team. Each game password gives access to log into the game once.

So even if you have 2 or 5 people in your team, the price is the same.

How many people can be on a team?

In principle, you can have an infinite number of people in a team, but in practice, you should split into smaller teams to ensure everyone gets something out of it.

We recommend playing in teams of 2-5 people and that everyone brings a cell phone if possible.

Most games require you to bring at least 2 phones, but only one of them needs to be logged into the game.

If you have more than one team, we recommend purchasing an entry for each team.

How to play a Sidewalk Mystery

The game must be played on a mobile phone or tablet and is controlled by the “Game Master”.

Most games require a minimum of 2 phones, as the other participants must also be able to retrieve material to solve puzzles and tasks.

Basically, one player is the game master and the other participants have the roles of “Collectors” and “Pathfinders”.

The “Game Master” is the participant who logs into the game and is responsible for submitting answers to the challenges you encounter during the mission.

“Collector” is all the players who gather knowledge along the way and test answer options so that you do not give wrong answers.
The answers the Collector tests do not affect your score for the mission.
In principle, there can be an infinite number of Collectors, so everyone can be active in the game.

The “Pathfinder” is the player responsible for finding the way.
After completing each task, you will receive directions to the next stop in the game.

For each question, you must either enter an answer or choose between 2 or more answer options.

Do I need to install anything to play?

The game can be played in a regular browser on any recent mobile phone or tablet.

In principle, the game can also be played on a computer, but it may be a bit heavy to carry around.

There is no need to install anything as the game can be played in a standard web browser. We recommend accepting all cookies.

The games also require mobile phones to be able to scan a QR code and display a PDF file. A standard option on all newer phones, via the camera function.

How do I access the game?

Once you have completed your purchase, you will be able to download the game guide in PDF format on the receipt page.

We recommend that you download (and print) the PDF document so that all participants can prepare.

The document will contain a QR code for the game itself, as well as a code to enter to start the game.

In addition, you will receive an email within 5-10 minutes that you have been added to Sidewalk Mystery.

You will be given the option to choose your own password to use with your email or username when you log in to play. This is especially important if you have purchased the game from a different device than the one you will be playing from.

What time of day can we play?

You can play Sidewalk Mystery as soon as the purchase is complete and you have received the confirmation email. This typically takes 5-10 minutes.

We recommend playing in daylight, but in principle you can play around the clock.

On some trips it will be an advantage to be able to visit some of the places you pass. If there is information (e.g. inside a church) that is needed to solve the tasks, there will also be help in the game’s “Hint” function.

How many points can you earn?

In each mission, you can earn 1000 points if you complete all tasks in the mission.

Not all tasks count equally. Points are graded according to how crucial each task is to the overall mission.

Difficulty levels Easy, Medium, Hard

The games are divided into 3 levels.

Regardless of the level of play, it is always recommended that children and young people play with one or more adults.

Easy

  • You need one phone to play
  • The game is not time-limited and can usually be completed in 2-3 hours
  • The codes are clearly explained and the Hint function is available for all questions.
  • Always limited to one level of encryption
  • Codes are in the same language as you are playing, for example Danish. If you have purchased a game in English, everything is in English.
  • If you get the answer wrong, you always get the opportunity to continue the game.

Medium

  • You need at least 2 phones
  • The game is not time-limited and can usually be completed in 2-3 hours
  • The codes are partially explained and help can be found in the Hint function
  • Always limited to one level of encryption
  • Codes can be in chosen language or English
  • If you get the answer wrong, you always get the opportunity to continue the game.

Hard

  • You need at least 2 phones
  • The game must be completed in time, usually 3 hours.
  • Solving the codes is indicated in Hint
  • Codes may be double encrypted. That is, a code may need to be decoded multiple times using different techniques.
  • There may be different languages in addition to Danish, German, and English.
How long is the route, and how long does it take?

The individual routes are described with length and average time to complete the tasks.

Most routes are planned for about 2-3 km

Expected time to complete approx. 2-3 hours.

What happens if you leave the game?

If you interrupt a game without completing it, it counts as an attempt and you will have to start over.

Likewise if your phone runs out of power or if you shut down your browser.

You can easily lock your phone screen as you move on to the next stop on your route.

Can kids join in?

Yes, of course.

The games are a great opportunity for both children and adults to have fun challenges and learn something new about the city.

However, we recommend that children always play with adults. Several games are based on historical events that may seem violent.

Accessibility

The tours are approximately 2.5–3 km. long, with no major ascents or descents.

As a rule, we plan the routes so that they are also wheelchair accessible.

The routes follow public pavements, roads, and paths in the urban area. If we know in advance that there are road conditions along the way that make it difficult to use a wheelchair, we will provide an alternative route during the game itself. On some routes, the pavement may at times be too narrow for a wheelchair. In these places, pedestrians also use the roadway and traffic is adapted to the conditions.

Can we play at a company party or other large events?

Of course, it’s great entertainment and a fun way to learn something new about each other and the city where the game takes place.

Volume discounts are automatically applied when purchasing more than 5 games.
