Welcome to our FAQ section!
Here you will find answers to some of the most common questions about our Sidewalk Mystery experiences.
You can start your game immediately after you receive the Game Guide and Game Code, which is valid for one year from purchase.
If you can’t find the answer to your question here, feel free to contact us or browse the site: How to play.
How is a Sidewalk Mystery different from a traditional Escape Room
Unlike a traditional escape room, it’s not about escaping, but about stepping into a local narrative.
All our games are based on – or inspired by – real events, combining the best of the escape room world, historical city walks and geocaching.
There are no locked rooms and no shock effects – because reality is dramatic enough on its own.
When can we play?
As soon as you have purchased the game and received the instructions and code (typically within 5-10 minutes). The code is valid for 1 year. We recommend daylight, but you can play around the clock – some games have opening hours.
Is the price per person?
No, the price is for a whole team.
One code gives access for the team to play once.
The game code gives you access to log in twice within 24 hours after the first login. So you can get started again if you run out of power along the way or accidentally turn off your phone.
How many people can be on a team?
You can be many, but we recommend 2-5 people per team for the best gaming experience.
If you have more people, you should buy one code per team.
How do you play?
The entire game runs in a regular browser on a mobile phone or tablet.
One player is the Game Leader (logs in and submits answers) and the others help find clues, solve puzzles, crack codes and find their way.
Most games require an additional phone to download additional material without using the game code.
Do we need to install anything?
No, the game runs in a regular browser. The phone must be able to scan QR codes and display PDFs.
We recommend closing all other browser windows and apps before starting, as switching away from the default browser may interrupt the game.
How do we get access?
Immediately after purchase, you will receive a PDF with instructions, QR code and game code.
How long are the routes?
Typically 2-3 km and 1-3 hours of playing time.
How are the routes?
A Sidewalk Mystery is conducted on public streets, alleys and paths, and you are responsible for looking out for yourself in traffic.
Along the way, you sometimes have to look for clues to solve some of the challenges along the way. Most often, something permanent is chosen, such as a statue, a plaque or similar.
Should there be external changes, such as roadworks or similar that we have no control over, you will always be able to continue in the game, even if a single task has to be skipped.
What if we leave the game?
The game cannot be resumed, if it is interrupted, you must start over.
But you can lock the screen on your phone and take a break along the way.
Can kids join in?
Yes, but the game is designed for adults and big kids.
Depending on age, younger children can help find clues and in some cases even crack codes.
Are the routes wheelchair or stroller accessible?
Generally yes, with a few exceptions, but this will be stated in the description of the individual game.
In some games, alternative routes are shown along the way if there is a narrow passage, for example.
Corporate event or large groups?
Yes, we offer volume discounts when purchasing 5 games or more.
